2When should I see a gastroenterologist?
Your family GP may refer you to a gastroenterologist if you have unexplained blood in your stool, diarrhoea, unexplained difficulty swallowing or are experiencing abdominal pain.
3What tests may be done during my consultation with Dr Wright?
There are several tests that may be indicated depending on your digestive concern. You may need a colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and endoscopic or abdominal ultrasound.
4As a gastroenterologist, does Dr John Wright perform surgery?
No, he is a physician who diagnoses the problem and if needed treats with medication. When necessary a gastrointestinal surgeon may be needed to do surgery.

6Do I need a referral letter from my doctor?
A letter of referral is preferred but not essential.
7Which medical aids are accepted?
We are contracted to Discovery, LA Health and BankMed. We submit accounts to some other medical aids after a co-payment is made. For certain medical aids such as Fedhealth, Cape Medical Plan and Genesis, we require payment up front.
8Or children seen as well?
Teenagers can be seen.
9What should I bring to my first appointment?
ID Document and medical aid card.
